The Northeast Championships is usually the last race of the season for the Down East Sled Dog Club. In 2010, it will be the 10th anniversary of being hosted in Jackman. It is a fast paced and diversified event featuring everything from one dog skijoring to large sled teams.

The Enduro Car race, "Moose River Valley 500", is an annual event sponsored by the Border Riders Club. 4 cylinder car race on an oval dirt track. Lots of fun for participants and spectators. Race begins at "high noon". For more information to register or to be a spectator, contact the Border Riders Club.

October 2009 Hunting Report

Records taken from Bishop’s Store, our local tagging station reports that the 2009 Bear Season was a record. 154 total Bear were registered with the largest taken by Parker Johnson on Oct. 2 which weighed in at 459lbs. A total of 9 Bears weighed in over 325 lbs.
One of the best Moose seasons on record in Jackman was also in 2009. A total of 109 Moose were reported with a Jackman native bagging the largest one. Donavan Nadeau of Jackman shot one on the first day which weighed in at 952 lbs and sported a 58” rack with 19 points. The weather was ideal for hunting and we did not hear of anyone that hunted the week that went home empty handed.
As of November 17th, Bishop’s has reported slightly fewer deer registered. A total of 30 deer have been reported compared to 37 in 2008. 12 out of 30 weighed over 180lbs which is a much higher number than last season. Fewer hunters but larger deer is great so come on up. The next 10 days will be the best of the season as the Bucks are now in rut.
