Affordable Health Care

The Affordable Health Care presentation will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in the Jackman Town Hall conference room starting at 10:00 a.m. The presentation itself will last about a half an hour, and then the floor will be open for questions. Open to the public. Gregory White, the public relations coordinator for Consumers for Affordable Health Care, will speak about options for health care for small businesses & individuals. He does NOT sell health insurance. Consumers for Affordable Health Care is a non-profit organization that educates people on health care coverage options & programs that can help them obtain care. They also co-operate the consumer assistance program (CAP). The following topics will be discussed: 1) resources available for small business employers, 2) otions offered through DHA (including: DirigoChoice- health insurance for individuals, small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, and sole proprietors offered through Harvard Pilgrim; Part-Time Worker Voucher Program; Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP)- federal insurance program for people who have been uninsured for at least six months and have one of 48 qualifying conditions) and 3) Changes occurring on the state and federal levels that will affect small businesses. ~~ The presentation will be a straight-forward, non-partisan look at the above topics. Attendees will be able to discuss these topics and ask any questions they may have afterwards.

Bike/Walk-A-Thon & Road Race

This year’s ride is approximately 36 miles and will start and end in Jackman.
The Bike-a-Thon will start at 7:00am at the Jackman Town Park. Bikers will leave the park on Route 201, turn right onto Heald Stream Road and ride to the Moose River Road, then onto the Demo Road to Route 15, then back on 201 to the Jackman Park. The route conditions are dirt roads and paved roads.
The Walk-A-Thon is 2.5 miles and begins at 10:00am. Walkers will exit the Town Park onto Route 201 and walk to Pleasant Street, then return to the Park.
The Road Race consists of a 4.2 mile gently sloping route starting at 10:00am. It will exit the Town Park onto Route 201, turn onto Heald Stream Road, Pleasant Street, Talpey Road, back onto Heald Stream Road, and return back to Jackman Park.
After the participants reconvene, there will be a cookout at the Jackman Town Park.
Entry fee: $10 per rider, walker and runner. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and refreshments along the route. We are asking participants to solicit sponsors or contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in support of the Team Trenton participants can do so either online at www.cff.org/great_strides/Claire Ellis or send a check payable to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to Claire Ellis at P.O. Box 213, Jackman, ME 04945. Several prizes will be raffled off.
